WILDSIDE SURVIVAL

Experience Box organize extreme survival bootcamps for 1 or 2 days. This "course" is physically and mentally challenging and will promote self-awareness and esteem, build self-confidence and team building skills whilst giving each candidate the chance to earn points both individually and as part of a group. The candidates will generally be split into teams and will be competing against each other both in teams and personally. The challenges are immense, they take candidates out of their ‘comfort zone’ and into new territories.  Its fun, its hard, its messy and gives everyone the chance to enjoy the mountains and valleys of this beautiful area – whilst taking home new found skills and a huge sense of camaraderie.

An example of event is : 

DAY ONE:  Bushcraft, Survival and Outdoor Skills

Candidates will be dropped-off and will hike along the Rio Grande to Base Camp. The Instructor will discuss the days activities and explain health and safety, equipment, "kit and use", outline the aim of the two days and get to meet everyone. He will then cover survival psychology, shelter building, fire lighting, water collection and purification, tree and plant uses, useful emergency equipment, navigation techniques, ropes and knots, orienteering, first aid basics and finding help/rescue.

This is a hands-on event : as the candidates learn they immediately put their skills into practice and demonstrate their new abilities. One of the tasks will be to build their own shelters that they will be sleeping in that night.  

Lunch and dinner will be cooked at base camp by the candidates, with the rest of the evening spent with quizzes testing what they have learnt that day and other local activities.  

DAY TWO:  Checkpoint Challenge Day

Day two sees candidates taking part in Checkpoint Challenges set over approximately a 10km route in the mountains and valleys surrounding Base Camp.  Using navigation and orienteering means, candidates must identify the checkpoints and reach each one within a specified time. Each checkpoint challenge is timed, and at each checkpoint an Instructor will be waiting to instruct them on their next challenge. There are a total of ten challenges that each team must complete.  Each challenge is different, some are physical, some are mentally stimulating.

 For instance:

• first aid response – an injured person is found on the mountain – the team must check for output, identify what could be the problem and arrange to transport the person to safety/rescue area.
• Using harness and rope, climb a tree (with supervision) and recover the flags at the top (not easy if you’ve never climbed a tree with rope and harness).
• Identify and collect ten wild edible foods in the local area.
